When should you start thinking about replacing your water heater?
1. No longer have enough hot water capacity
Does your hot water seem to be running out quicker than it used to? This can be a sign that sediment has built up inside the unit, which can sometimes be flushed out.
However, flushing a water heater is not recommended if it is over 6 years old and has never been flushed. The sediment inside may be blocking a small pinhole in the tank, and flushing it can cause the unit to start leaking.
If it’s over 6 years old, it may be time to replace it.
2. Water Heater is leaking
When a water heater has developed a leak that is not visibly coming from any connections to the unit it often time has a pinhole in the water tank. the tank cannot be repaired and must be replaced. You'll know a water heater tank has failed when there is water in the emergency drip pan.
3. No Hot Water
No hot water can be frustrating. but this is one of the first warning signs your water heater is on the fritz. While in some cases water heaters can be repaired, most times replacment is more cost effective and more efficient to getting you hot water.
